SUZY HAMBLEN (Veeva Daniels Hamblen) of Santa Clarita, passed away on Monday, June 2nd, 2008, at her ranch home, in Santa Clarita. She was born on May 9th, 1907, in Oklahoma Indian territory.
In the early 1930’s, Suzy Hamblen met and fell in love with a tall Texan, who had the number 1 radio program on the West Coast…Stuart Hamblen. When she married that tall Texan in 1933, she became known and loved nationally on the Stuart Hamblen’s Covered Wagon Jubilee program as “My Suzy” Hamblen.
During their 55 years together, Suzy helped and stood beside her husband as he continued to stay on top of the popularity charts on the West Coast with his radio programs. He held rodeos and dances in and around the Southern California area. He met and promoted Billy Graham’s 1949 Revival Tent meeting in Los Angeles and ran for President of the United States in 1952. Stuart wrote over 300 songs, both Country and Gospel, has several Hall of Fame awards and has his star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame boulevard. He also raced thoroughbred horses and was the first person to put a horse on an airplane. Stuart carved out a dynamic legacy with all of his “firsts”, songs, appearances, Hall of Fame awards, etc.
During her life, Suzy also has written and recorded a number of Gospel songs. She has appeared on several of the Bill Gaither Homecoming Gospel Albums. Throughout her lifetime, she was a noted speaker and in demand at churches and conferences. She was the the “CEO” of the family music publishing company, Hamblen Music Co.
Always a conscientious wife, mother and grandmother, Suzy has earned the beloved title of “Nana”. She is survived by her 2 daughters,1 “daughter-by-choice”, 2 sons-in-law, 1 “son-in-law-by-choice”, 7 grandchildren, 3 “grandchildren-by-choice”, 15 great-grandchildren and 5 “great-grandchildren by choice”. Because of her deep love, understanding and support, even her nieces, nephews and friend’s children had considered her their “Nana”.
The funeral service will be Wednesday June 11th at 3 p.m, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park and Mortuary – Hollywood Hills, 6300 Forest Lawn Drive, Los Angeles, with Dr. Keith Philips from World Impact Ministries officiating.
